HELLO EVERYONE,
I can’t believe I’m writing the August message already! It must be that I still have so many things to get done this summer that makes it slip away way TOO quick. I’ve talked for months about this being the “summer from you know where” as far as road construction goes and it was certainly that way for a couple weeks. It seems now during the BYU Idaho 7-week break that traffic is not quite so “backed up” but it still requires some creative and forward thinking about your intended route to work or the store if you live on the opposite side of Highway 20 from where you’re going. A fiber installation company hit and broke the main water line and pressure sewer line out by Walmart along 2nd East shortly after construction closed the Highway 33 exit causing us to unexpectedly have to shut down one lane going north. That was a nightmare as many of you experienced, but we’re through it now and we survived! Thank you for having a “Stone Soup” attitude about all this construction. (If you’re not familiar “Stone Soup” google it and see if you can figure out what I’m talking about and next time you see me, we’ll talk about it.)
Thinking of Cultural Arts events, the Rexburg Cultural Arts department will be presenting the musical “Footloose” on August 9 and 10th at the Romance Theater. The kids and production team have worked very hard on producing a quality presentation so please come and enjoy and appreciate their efforts.
Rexburg Rapids' last day will be Saturday, August 24th, so don’t forget to get in a few days of cooling off before the closing day.
School starts in the Madison School District in a few weeks and have I ever mentioned that I love football? The first football game for the Bobcats will be Friday, August 23rd. Let’s all be great fans this year and come out and support the football team and the cheerleaders, the dance team, the pep band, the marching band, the soccer and volleyball teams, the spirit club kids, and…… you get the message…..let’s support our kids in doing positive things. Being a true “Fan” means supporting our school teams even if you don’t have a child or grandchild involved. It’s a great opportunity to become more involved in the community.
Thank you all for being you and making Rexburg an awesome place to be!
Sincerely,
Mayor Jerry Merrill
Life is Great…..in Rexburg, Idaho!!!
